Building on District 112’s Success.

About Bennett

I grew up in Highland Park and attended District 112 schools. My early education prepared me well. I graduated with honors from both Grinnell College and Harvard Law School.

I returned to Highland Park with my wife, Cristina Schimert Lasko (also a District 112 graduate), to raise our three children. They attended Lincoln and Edgewood. Cristina was a PTO member and coordinated artists-in-residence programming; I volunteered as an AYSO coach and a visiting “Lawyers in the Classroom” teacher. We were District 112 parents for 16 years.

In 2012, I volunteered for an advisory committee (SCFFAC) because I was concerned about the cost-cutting I saw first-hand as a parent and how it was impacting the quality of education. I assisted in writing the SCFFAC report in 2014 and continued thereafter to serve on other advisory committees and ad hoc groups.

I campaigned for the Board of Education eight years ago on a promise to put the divisiveness behind us, resolve the facilities issues, balance the budget, and refocus the resources of the District on educational excellence. Together with my board colleagues and the District 112 leadership team, I believe we have delivered on those promises.

Professionally, I have been a business litigation attorney for more than 35 years. My practice concentrates on accounting, valuation, and financial disputes. I assist business clients to resolve disputes so they can get back to running their businesses.

Prior to running for the School Board, I had extensive experience serving on non-profit boards and advising boards as an attorney. I understand the role of a well-functioning board.

I have no personal agenda and I am not beholden to any faction or special interests. My goal simply is to keep District 112 on track to deliver sustained excellence in education for every child in our community.

Serving on the District 112 Board of Education is demanding, but also rewarding. I am fortunate to work with a great team of colleagues. I would be honored to have your support to continue.
